Sticky Fingers Bakery has long been a sweet sensation within the vegan community, serving up pastries and other delights in the Washington, DC area since 2002, accumulating numerous awards over the years. Luckily, Doron has recently released the secrets to her baking success in a cookbook chronicling the bakery’s most popular recipes, Sticky Fingers’ Sweets .

With so many mouthwatering options, it wasn’t easy to choose the recipes to try so I could properly review this book. But I did it. The book opens with a Basics chapter, then gets into nine recipe chapters. Two of the recipes, I’ve actually had from the bakery: the Chocolate Chip Cookies (from the Cookie Chapter) and the Sticky Buns (from the Trifecta Chapter which are the three cornerstone recipes for the bakery). I wanted to see how close they were to the originals. For the 3rd recipe, I tried the Cheesecake Cupcakes (from Fab and Fruity Pies and Cheesecakes). You won’t see a photo of those here because they didn’t look pretty. But they tasted great, so that’s ok by me. The Sticky Buns taste exactly like they do at the bakery, and so do the Chocolate Chip Cookies.

I tried one of Doron’s recipes out of Vegetarian Times for Valentine’s Day (the Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting) and my very non-Vegan family LOVED them (didn’t even realize that there weren’t eggs/dairy in them). Her book is full of all sorts of wonderful baking, including pies, cakes, frostings, sticky buns, candies, and more! They are all animal-free and delicious! She also has some great tips for Vegan baking and cake decoration in the introduction. Definitely a must-have addition to your cookbook collection!

i wish they had better hours…i’m a cpkacue-a-holic as well and was desperately craving one over the weekend, stopped by, but it was too early. they need to have hours like Sprinkles and open at 9am for us addicts! =)
